Mamma Mia – the rise of Italian eateries in Geneva

There has been what can only be described as an Italian food revolution in Switzerland. Pizza and pasta eateries have been increasing in popularity, as have ‘apero’ style restaurants, blending artisan sandwiches with fine wine.

Italian cuisine is one of the best performing segments in the Swiss food market.

Switzerland provides the perfect market for restaurant ventures. It is the fastest growing economy in Western Europe and is considered to be very entrepreneur friendly. Additionally, the citizens, with high disposable incomes, spend more on food and beverage than any other country. The prices are also amongst the highest in Europe, so restaurants have a higher profit margin, a major attraction for investors.

Among other investors, two such prospective investors are Alexis Bailo de Spoelberch and Patrice Bailo de Spoelberch. The Bailo de Spoelberch pair have expressed an interest in the Italian casual dining scene, seeking out investments in Italian chain restaurants.

Other investors are flocking to the market, proving that Switzerland’s love for Italian cuisine is as lucrative as it is delicious.
